Hydro Tec: Aesthetic design with robust engineering

Founded by Sergio Cutolo, a visionary with over four decades of experience in the industry, Hydro Tec has become a benchmark in the world of naval design. ‘As we approach our 30th anniversary, we continue to experience exponential growth. We recognized the need to restructure and enhance our various departments to keep pace with a market that shows no signs of slowing down after the pandemic. This expansion drives us to specialize further, implementing advanced processes and increasing our direct workforce,’ Cutolo reflects on its impressive journey.

Hydro Tec’s success can be attributed to its unique ability to combine aesthetic design with robust engineering. This seamless integration of form and function results in yachts that not only perform exceptionally but also stand out for their striking beauty. ‘Every technical detail is designed to be aesthetically pleasing, and every aesthetic detail is conceived to be technically efficient,’ says Cutolo. This philosophy has become the foundation of Hydro Tec’s approach to design, where creativity and technical excellence go hand in hand.

Functional and beautiful

One area where this approach is particularly evident is in Hydro Tec’s work on Explorer Superyachts. These vessels require a careful balance between practicality and luxury, as they are often used for long voyages that demand ample storage space and easy access to technical rooms. At the same time, owners expect large, comfortable living spaces, both indoors and outdoors.

Hydro Tec excels at meeting these demands while maintaining the aesthetic harmony of the yacht. Weight distribution, navigation efficiency, and safety are all meticulously considered during the design process, ensuring that every project is not only beautiful but also highly functional.

Also, the innovation at Hydro Tec is not confined to traditional methods. The company draws inspiration from a wide range of sources, including the automotive industry and the natural world.

For example, the design of the Veloce, built by Vittoria Yachts, was inspired by the sleek lines of the Aston Martin DB9. Meanwhile, the Columbus Crossover 42 takes its design cues from nature, with sharp angles and masculine profiles reminiscent of rugged cliffs or rock formations.

Dedication to inovation

One of Hydro Tec’s key distinctions is its holistic approach to superyacht design. Rather than focusing on isolated elements of a project, the company integrates multiple lines of expertise, resulting in designs that are both cohesive and extraordinary.

By offering a comprehensive range of services, Hydro Tec actually simplifies the project for shipyards, acting as an intermediary that manages the complexities of design and engineering. This allows shipyards to focus on what they do best – building exceptional yachts – while Hydro Tec handles the rest.

From the sleek lines of the Columbus 40 SH to the innovative design of the RSY 38M EXP, Hydro Tec’s creations are among the most impressive yachts on the market.

One standout project is the Columbus Classic 80M – Dragon, a giga yacht that embodies both elegance and reliability. Built in just 27 months, Dragon features five decks, a 7-meter pool on the Fly, and a 200-square-meter beach club. With a range of 6,200 nautical miles and a top speed of 17 knots, Dragon is not only a work of art but also a feat of engineering.

Other notable projects include the M/Y Aurelia – Flexplorer, the M/Y Maverick – Flexplorer, and the M/Y Emocean. Each of these yachts reflects Hydro Tec’s dedication to innovation and its ability to meet the unique demands of its clients.

‘We are constantly evolving, and our mission is to push the boundaries of design and engineering even further’, Cutolo concluded. With its unparalleled expertise and visionary approach, Hydro Tec is poised to continue shaping the future of naval design for decades to come.
